ELMHURST, Ill. – Returning to the league where it won 15 straight championships, the Oral Roberts University women’s golf team was picked to finish second behind last year’s Summit League Champion Denver, it was announced Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles, back in the league following a two-year hiatus, have the league’s top-two golfers entering the spring season. Alejandra Acosta leads the way with a 73.9 stroke average in 12 rounds and captured the ORU Shootout individual title. Kennedy Ishee has a pair of top-five finishes and recorded a 74.4 stroke average. The Golden Eagles compiled a 42-6 overall record during the fall season with four top-5 finishes in as many tournaments.
The 2015 Summit League Women’s Golf Championship takes place April 20-22, at the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif. The champion earns the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
The Oral Roberts men’s golf team was picked to finish third this season while Denver has been selected as the preseason favorite to capture The Summit League Championship title for the second year in a row.
Oral Roberts is ranked third behind the play of Scott Newell. Newell, who was named Newcomer of the Championship in 2012, has a 73.5 stroke average with a pair of top-five finishes during the fall season. ORU won its first tournament of the fall season, besting the 15-team field at the SIU Edwardsville Invitational. The Golden Eagles were 7-3 against Summit League teams during the fall season.
