KONA, Hawaii — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team used a 280 during its third round on Saturday at the Amer Ari Invitational to move up two spots and finish in fifth place at Waikoloa Kings’ Course.
The Cowboys finished the event with a 19-under total of 845, which put them three shots off the pace of Arizona State and Oregon for third place at the par-72, 7,074-yard layout. Southern California posted a closing 282 to finish at 29-under 835 and two shots clear of UCLA in the team race.
Oregon did produce the individual medalist in Aaron Wise, who fired a 64 during his final round to finish at 16-under 200 and earn a two-shot victory.
OSU’s Zachary Olsen earned his second top 10 of the year, closing with a 69 to finish alone in fourth place at 11-under 205. The junior posted three consecutive sub-70 rounds en route to his best finish of the season.
Brendon Jelley jumped up 26 spots into a tie for 20th place courtesy of a 67 during his third round. Jelley finished at 4-under 212. The sophomore put together a bogey-free round that began with a birdie at the sixth. After opening his inward nine with three consecutive pars, he logged consecutive birdies at Nos. 13 and 14 before adding another at the 17th for a 3-under 33. In addition to his birdie at the sixth, Jelley added a birdie at the fourth for a 2-under 34 on his outward nine.
Senior Jordan Niebrugge posted his second consecutive 72 to finish at 212 as well.
Redshirt freshman Nick Heinen posted a closing 75 to stand at 219 and tied for 62nd place, while sophomore Sam Stevens turned in his low round of the event, finishing with a 72 to tie for 83rd place at 223.
Junior Wyndham Clark and redshirt freshman Hayden Wood both competed as individuals with Clark tying for 68th at 220 after closing with a 77. Wood finished in a tie for 83rd place at 223 after signing for his second 72 in a row.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Feb. 26 when they begin play at the John Hayt Collegiate.
