OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday with a 7-over 287 to finish in third place at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys tallied a 54-hole total of 869, 29-over par, at the par-70, 7,205-yard layout to come in two strokes behind runner-up Texas’ 867 total. Alabama cruised to victory after closing with a 291 for an 849 score.
Alabama’s Robby Shelton and Stanford’s Cameron Wilson shared medalist honors after finishing at even-par 210.
OSU’s senior trio of Ian Davis, Talor Gooch and Kevin Dougherty finished tied for 12th place at 218. Jordan Niebrugge missed the event after playing in the Walker Cup last weekend. It was new head coach Alan Bratton’s debut at the head of the storied program.
Davis closed with the squad’s low round of the event, a 69, while Gooch finished with a 74 and Dougherty posted a 73 during his third round.
Davis went out in 1-over 36 after posting bogeys at Nos. 3 and 7 to go against a birdie at the eighth. After a bogey at the 11th pushed him back to 2-over for the day, Davis reeled off birdies at the 12th, 14th and 16th to move under par. He countered a bogey at the 17th with a birdie at the 18th to finish in red figures for the round.
Sophomore Wyndham Clark posted a 71 during his third round to finish at 219 and tied for 21st, while junior Tanner Kesterson’s 75 gave him a 227 and tied him for 53rd place.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Sept. 29 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
