OU builds 10-shot lead at Gopher Invitational

Through nearly two rounds of play at the Gopher Invitational, the University of Oklahoma men’s golf team sits in first place in the 15-team field. The tournament is being played at the par-71, 7,152-yard Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.

The second round of the event began Sunday afternoon, following the first round that morning, but was suspended due to darkness. Three teams, including the No. 22 Sooners, did not complete the second round.

The Sooners carded a 288 (+4) in the first round. With four Sooners waiting to finish the second round, OU holds first place with an overall score at 5-over par.

Currently, the Sooners have a 10-stroke lead over Baylor, who shot a two-round 583 (+15). No. 19 California sits in third at 18 over par. Kent State and Iowa State share a piece of fourth place with a two-round 589 (+21).

"The guys hung in there today, and we still have three more holes to finish up tomorrow," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "It was a long day, but we put ourselves in a great spot, and I know the guys will be ready for what tomorrow brings."

Senior Luke Kwon is in first place after shooting 3 under on the day. Kwon, who is coming off his first career top-10 finish in the Carmel Cup, shot a 1-under 70 in the first round. With two holes remaining in the second round, Kwon currently sits at 2 under for the round after making an eagle and three birdies.

Junior Max McGreevy carded a 70 (-1) in the first round and shot even par through 15 holes of the second round, placing him in third place overall. McGreevy pocketed three birdies in the first round and has four so far in the second.

Freshman Brad Dalke has a share of fourth place with an overall score at 1 over par. Dalke shot a 72 (+1) in the first round, and with one hole remaining in the second round, Dalke is even at 66.

Senior Beau Titsworth finished both rounds and holds a tie for 40th place with an overall 151 (+9). Sophomore Grant Hirschman sits in a tie for 49th place at 11-over par with three holes remaining in the second round.

The Sooners will tee off to finish the second round Monday morning at 7:30 CT. After the three remaining teams complete their second-round action, third-round play will begin. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com.
