OU’s McGreevy named to PING All-America team

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma golfer Max McGreevy has been named a Division I PING All-American, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Thursday. McGreevy was a third-team selection for his junior season.

With this honor, the Sooners now have 53 All-Americans in program history. McGreevy is the fifth student-athlete to receive the accolade under seventh-year head coach Ryan Hybl, joining Abraham Ancer (honorable mention, 2011), Will Kropp (honorable mention, 2012), Michael Gellerman (third team, 2015) and Grant Hirschman (honorable mention, 2015).

“Being able to put a plaque up on our wall as an All-American is very special, and Max earned it this year,” Hybl said. “He performed well all year and was very consistent. I am proud of him and his work, and he continues to improve.”

In his junior campaign, McGreevy served as the Sooners’ most consistent golfer, placing in the top 25 in 10 of 13 team events. Additionally, the Edmond, Okla., native tallied four top-five finishes, the most by any Sooner since Anthony Kim recorded five during the 2004-05 season. McGreevy’s team-best scoring average, 72.13 (+0.68), was also the best since Ancer in his All-American season.

Furthermore, McGreevy earned his first career tournament win in September at the Gopher Invitational, carding a career-low three-round 206 (-7). He also set a career-low single-round score, 66, in the third round. McGreevy then matched this total three more times throughout the season, including in the fourth round of the NCAA Championships as he led the Sooners to match play competition for the first time in program history.

“I’m super excited to be able to get this honor because I have worked hard my entire life, and this has definitely been a goal of mine,” McGreevy said. “I want to thank my parents and coaches especially for all the help throughout the years. I’m just excited for the next year and to get all of our names on the All-American list because I know everyone on our team has the game to do that.”

In addition to the All-America accolade, McGreevy was also named to the Division I PING All-Central Region Team, the All-Big 12 Team, the Academic All-Big 12 Team and the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
