OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 13, 2017) – Juan Pallach‘s best-ever collegiate performance earned the Oklahoma Christian junior recognition on Wednesday as the Heartland Conference golfer of the week.
Pallach, from Mexico City, put together one of the finest individual performances in OC and Heartland history during the Great American Conference Preview, played Monday and Tuesday at Lake Hefner Golf Club’s North Course. Pallach shot 69-66-66—201 on the par-72, 6,970-yard layout to finish tied for second, leading OC to its first team win since March 2016.
His 15-under-par score was the fourth-best score in relation to par in OC history and he helped the Eagles post the program’s second- and third-best team rounds in relation to par (16-under and 15-under). As a team, OC finished 40-under-par, a program record.
Pallach had 15 birdies and two eagles during the GAC Preview. In the Heartland record book, his 201 score tied for the second-lowest ever in total strokes and also was the second-lowest in relation to par, trailing only former OC standout Sam Johnston’s 197 (-16) at the U.C. Ferguson Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s West Course (par 71) in fall 2012.
Pallach’s 36-hole score of 9-under ranked second in OC history, behind only teammate Garrett White, who was 11-under through two rounds at the GAC Preview. Pallach and White are two of only six OC golfers ever to score in the 60s in all three rounds of a 54-hole tournament, and the others on that list are a Who’s Who of OC golf – Juan Lizzaralde, Bruno Buccolo (twice), Johnston and Rhein Gibson.
It was the first career Heartland player-of-the-week honor for Pallach. He became the first OC student-athlete to receive a Heartland weekly award during the 2017-18 academic year.
