Owasso, Okla. – The Patriot Golf Club has announced a $9.5 million expansion, including a new clubhouse, renovated and expanded golf house and pool complex addition. The expected completion date of the project is summer 2018.
Members were given details at a heavily attended meeting at the Hard Rock Casino on Friday night. Dave Bryan, director of golf for the club, said the reaction was overwhelmingly positive.
The new 20,000 square-foot clubhouse will be located behind the current facility and along the ridge toward the 18th green. The current clubhouse and pro shop will remain open while it is completed, then a temporary pro shop will be in the clubhouse while the current buildings are incorporated into the second phase, a greatly expanded golf house to include 1,200 square-foot pro shop and lockerrooms.
Phase one of the expansion will begin this fall and will include construction of the clubhouse featuring space for dining, socializing and entertaining and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The dining room will include a display kitchen with a wood fire oven. The spacious fitness center will include men’s and women’s locker rooms, spa treatment room, cardio and free weights area and an elevated yoga loft.
Events and small gatherings will be welcomed at the clubhouse with a banquet room and smaller private dining areas for meetings and parties. Other clubhouse amenities will include a men’s lounge and member’s lounge offering stunning views of Tulsa.
“We initially opened The Patriot with a mission to support the Folds of Honor Foundation, by offering great golf for the greater good, we always intended to grow the facility and amenities as we grew the membership,†said Holly Neidel, General Manager of The Patriot. “With an average growth of 15 percent in new members each year over the past six years, we feel now is the time to expand and truly make this campus a lifestyle club the entire family can enjoy.â€
The Patriot has grown from fewer than 100 members to more than 350, with about 100 of those national members. The surrounding Stone Canyon development continues to grow rapidly.
Neidel said the funding would come mostly from the ownership group but about 25 percent from a membership fundraiser.
Phase one is scheduled for completion in fall 2017 at which time phase two will begin. Phase two includes the renovation of the current clubhouse into a premier golf house with an expanded golf shop offering views of downtown Tulsa. The golf house will also include a shoe and locker room attendant, men’s locker room featuring over 300 lockers and lounge spaces, and a woman’s locker room with 75 lockers and lounge spaces.
Additionally, fall 2017 will see the construction of the pool complex addition featuring a resort-style leisure pool, activity pool, kid’s play shelf with bubbling water features, and a separate lounge pool. Servicing pool guests will be the new pool cabana complete with restroom facilities and a bar with covered lounge areas. For year round enjoyment, the complex will also include fire pits.
The expansion plans were developed by Oklahoma City-based designer Tom Hoch who’s firm oversaw the renovation of Tulsa Country Club among hundreds of other clubs.
“We are very proud of the concept developed and believe it reflects the desires of our membership and takes The Patriot from a traditional golf club to a truly unique and luxurious space with amenities for the entire family,†said Neidel.
The expansion will allow The Patriot to welcome even more guests and members raising awareness and financial support for the Folds of Honor Foundation housed next to The Patriot. The Foundation offers educational scholarships to the spouses and children of service members killed or disabled in service.
The Patriot supports The Folds of Honor through various activities and events like The Patriot Cup tournament held each Memorial Day. The weekend-long celebration will end with a salute to the troops from PGA Tour and Champion’s Tour professionals, celebrities, donors and military players.
The Patriot, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., opened in 2010 with tasteful but modestly-sized facilities for dining, lockers and pro shop. The course was immediately acclaimed as one of the best new facilities in the country and ranked by Golfweek raters in the top 100 of Best Modern (post 1960) courses in the country.
