Price shoots 1-under as NSU opens 15-shot lead on UCO in MIAA Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 11-ranked Northeastern State women’s golf team owns a 15-stroke lead after the first round of the 2016 MIAA Championship, which is being held at the par-72, 5,893-yard Swope Memorial Golf Course.

The RiverHawks fired a team score of 18-over-par 306 to land well ahead of the pace. No. 25 Central Oklahoma is second at 33-over 321, and No. 49 Lindenwood sits third at 36-over 324. Central Missouri and Missouri Western State are tied for fourth at 53-over 341.

All five members of NSU’s lineup shot in the 70’s and are all inside the top four in the individual standings.

Junior Baylee Price shot 1-under 71 and owns a six stroke lead over the rest of the field. True freshman Ebba Moberg is tied for second at 5-over 77. Seniors Charter Lawson and Kayla Schroeder and true freshman Kelsey Lumpkinare all tied for fourth at 7-over 79.

Northeastern State will begin teeing off in Tuesday’s second round at 8:30 a.m. NSU will start on the back nine.

Central Oklahoma will have to rally to win a fourth straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association women’s golf title.
 
The Bronchos shot an opening-round 321and trail NSU by 15 strokes.
 
Daniela Martinez, Makena Mucciaccio and Camillo Schou are tied for eighth in the individual standings after all three shot 80 to lead UCO, while Marla Souvannasing had an 81 and Grace Shin an 82.
