Rogers State claims fourth in Hardscrabble Invite

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Rogers State men’s golf team finished in fourth out of nine teams at the Hardscrabble Invitational at the Hardscrabble CC on Monday and Tuesday (April 9-10) in the final regular season event of the season. Freshman Gonzalo Chaves ranked in the top 10 for the first time in his career in seventh overall.

Chaves, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, put together a score of 5-over-par 75 in the final round today to take seventh individually. After shooting two 1-over-par 71 scores in the first two rounds on Monday, the freshman posted a 54-hole score of 7-over 217.

Freshmen Aidan Gavey and Luke Palmowski ranked in the top 14 to place three RSU freshmen in the top 14. Gavey concluded the invite with a 4-over-par 74 and a total of 220.  Palmowski was one shot back of Gavey at 11-over-par 221 after a final round 73.

Senior Alex Marsh shot 74 for a 229 and freshman George Burnett shot 230 after a 74.

Texas A&M-Commerce won the team title with a 54-hole total of 846. Host UA Fort Smith took second overall at 849.

Chris Eckes of UA Fort Smith used a 2-under-par 68 in the final round to win the individual title by three shots. The Hillcats now prepare for the Heartland Conference Tournament on April 22-24 at the Horseshoe Bay Slick Rock Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
