HORSESHOE BAY, Texas – The Rogers State men’s golf team dropped back to second place, but three Hillcats are in the top six after two of the three rounds at the Heartland Conference Championship at Horseshoe Bay’s Slick Rock GC. As a team, RSU shot 288 today to total a score of 566 through two rounds.

Oklahoma Christian is in third after shooting 3-under par in the second round.

Senior Alex Marsh is the third Hillcat in the top six after an even-par 72 in the second round. With a 3-under-par 69 in yesterday’s opening round, the Southampton, England sits at 3-under-par 141 through 36 holes for sixth. Freshman Gonzalo Chaves carded a round of 1-over-par 73 to rank 15th through two rounds at even par 144. Freshman George Burnett put together a score of 4-over-par 76 and is 8-over-par 152 for 39th.

Oklahoma Christian posted the second-best team score of the day, a 3-under-par 285, but UAFS shot a sizzling 11-under 277 to move into the lead at Slick Rock Golf Course. The Lions’ two-round team score of 561 was five shots ahead of first-round leader Rogers State and nine ahead of OC.

Also in contention in the nine-team field entering Tuesday’s final round will be St. Edward’s (Texas) at 574 and St. Mary’s (Texas) at 576. St. Mary’s (second), OC (fourth), UAFS (fifth) and St. Edward’s (ninth) all entered the 54-hole tournament in the NCAA Division II South Central Region top 10. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the Division II South Central-West Super Regional.

Two UAFS golfers finished Monday atop the individual leaderboard, with Parker Jennings at 137 (7-under) and Chris Eckes at 138 after shooting a 5-under-par 67, matching the low round of the day with another teammate, Zach Partin.

OC junior Garrett White – who had four birdies, including three in a row in one stretch – bogeyed No. 18 but is third in the 45-man field at 139.

White shot a 69 for his second straight under-par round on a course he played a lot as a teenager. Also shooting under-par for OC on Monday was junior Ethan Smith, who had six birdies and was 4-under at one point before finishing with a 70 on the 6,867-yard course. Smith moved into a tie for 26th individually at 147.

Another OC junior, Cameron Brown, had a roller-coaster round that included five birdies and five bogeys and ended with him posting an even-par 72 that put him in 11th place at 142.

The story was much the same for junior teammate Juan Pallach, who had four birdies while shooting a 74. Also finishing with a 74 was OC freshman Andres Brictson. Pallach was tied for 31st at 149, while Brictson was tied for 15th at 144.
