James Roller of Jenks and six other young men are enjoying a special round of golf today with Rickie Fowler at the Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla.

Roller was one of seven players honored by the American Junior Golf Association as the top fundraisers this summer for its Leadership Links program. Roller raised $15,186 through a combination of one-time donations and also many who pledged certain amounts for all of the birdies he would make in competition, which turned out to be 131 in a combination of Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour, AJGA and other prominent tournaments.

Roller, the son of Maggie and Bill Roller, both prominent members of the Tulsa golf community, has committed to play collegiate golf at Texas Tech. He won the Class 2A state championship while leading Regent Prep to the team title last May as a sophomore.

Of the money Roller raised, half will go the AJGA’s Ace Grants program (Achieving Competitive Excellence), which helps support young men and women with financial assistance for college. The other half Roller chose the beneficiary and it was College Golf Fellowships administered in this region by Bixby native Draegen Majors.
