RSU golf finishes seventh in DBU Women’s Classic

DALLAS – After battling rain and wind Monday things improved in Tuesday’s second round of the DBU Women’s Classic at Golf Club of Dallas as the Rogers State golf team improved by 16 strokes for a seventh place finish.

Monday’s opening round was rain soaked and windblown resulting in a 331 team score for the Hillcats and sitting tenth in team results entering Tuesday. Today’s round of 315 moved RSU up three spots to finish in seventh six strokes ahead of eighth place St. Mary’s (Texas).

RSU finished third amongst the six Heartland Conference schools in the 15 team field. Kelsey Steuver led the Hillcats after shooting 75 (+3) on the 5,879 yard course Tuesday. The sophomore’s second round score was an eight stroke improvement from her opening round 83 to finish 26th shooting a 158.

Freshman Michelle Tierney shot 80-81 on the par 72 course for a 161 total to tie for 34th place. Raquel Trevino shot an opening round 85 but trimmed six shots in day two carding a 79 for a 164 to tie for 42nd. Chelsea Burney shot 83-84–167 to finish 49th while Kina Boone made up for a difficult opening round to fire an 80 on day two for 58th place in the 83 golfer field.

St. Edward’s University earned the team title with rounds of 297-303–600 finishing eight strokes ahead of second place Tarleton State. Arkansas Tech’s Rebecka Surtevall claimed the individual crown with rounds of 71-67 for a 138 total.

Rogers State will next compete October 21-22 at The Greens at North Hills for the University of Arkansas-Monticello Fall Classic in Sherwood, Ark. For more information on Hillcat Golf visit
