Sadeghy to the rescue for Cowgirls at Big 12 Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Oklahoma State junior golfer Alexis Sadeghy was in her dorm room in Stillwater on Thursday morning when she got the phone call from head coach Courtney Jones. Fellow junior Emma Broze was injured and wouldn’t be able to compete in the Big 12 Championships, and Sadeghy would have about two hours to get to the airport for a flight to San Antonio.

Less than 24 hours later, Sadeghy would enter the clubhouse tied for fifth place after an even-par 72 opening round at The Dominion Country Club. In her first career appearance at the Big 12 Championship, Sadeghy birdied the first hole – her first of four birdies on the day – and anchored a Cowgirl lineup that will enter Saturday’s second round just a stroke behind TCU for the lead at 6-over 294.

“We kind of had a curveball thrown at us yesterday,” Jones said. “Fortunately, we were able to get Lexi down here in time, and she stepped up today with a great even-par round. But across the board, we had 16 birdies across our team today, so we show a lot of firepower and got solid rounds from everybody.”

Two-time Big 12 Conference individual champion Kenzie Neisen carded 5 birdies and is tied for ninth place with a 1-over 73, while Linnea Johansson shot a 2-over 74 to put her tied for 14th place.

Chih-Min Chen posted an even-par back nine and will enter Saturday tied for 21st place with a 3-over 75.

Maddie McCrary entered the clubhouse 6-over 78, which put her in a tie for 31st place.

The Cowgirls will tee off the second round on Saturday at 10 a.m.
