PONCA CITY — A good week got better for Alexis Sadeghy on Wednesday.

Two days after signing her letter of intent to play golf at Oklahoma State next season, the Bishop McGuinness senior shot 1-under-par 71 in the first round of the Class 6A girls state golf tournament at Ponca City Country Club.

Trudy Allen of Tulsa Union shot 75 and is in second place, though her score helped the Redskins post a 318 team total to take a 12-stroke lead on the field in the team competition.

Having played in Class 5A the last three seasons, Sadeghy has never finished worse than third at the state tournament. But she’s never won it — a fact she’ll look to change Thursday.

Showing good control off the tee and a strong short game, Sadeghy got off to a fast start Wednesday.

"I started off well with birdies on the first two holes," Sadeghy said. "I played solid through the rest of the front nine after that."

A birdie on No. 11 got Sadeghy to 3 under before she carded a couple of bogeys down the stretch.
