SEOSU takes second in David Falconer Classic

DANVILLE, Ark. – Weather forced an early end to the David Falconer Classic in Danville, Ark., with just two of the scheduled three rounds being played as Southeastern maintained its first round position and finished second in the event with a two-round score of 579.
 
The Savage Storm turned in a second-round score of 293 to follow up its first round tally of 286 at the par-72 Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville, Ark.
 
Zach James stayed on pace with his first found and turned in a one-under 71 in the second round and finished the event with a three-under par 141 which was good for a tie for third individually.
 
Guillermo Retana had the biggest improvement for SE as he followed up his 73 on Monday with a two-under 70 to card a total of 143 to finish tied for seventh.
 
Mason Horner saw his second round score slip to a 74 after an opening round 71 to post a one-over 145 and finish tied for 17th.
 
Marcos Sevilla Suarez saw the biggest change in round, turning in a 78 on Tuesday after posting a 72 in the opening round to finish tied for 40th with a 150.
 
Hayden Foster rounded out the golfers with a 78 on Tuesday after a 75 on Monday which put him at 153 for the event, tied for 55th.
 
The Storm finished eight shots behind tournament host Arkansas tech who turned in an event-low of 283 in the second round to tally a 571 overall.
 
Henderson State slipped from the top spot with a 296 on Tuesday which put them at 581 over two rounds in a third-place tie with Washburn.
 
Trevecca Nazarene rounded out the top five with a 292 on Tuesday for a 585 on the event.
 
Southeastern will be back on the links March 14-15 when it travels to San Antonio, Texas, for the Rattler Invite at the Golf Club of Texas.

After shooting a 289 in the first round, Southern Nazarene was 15 strokes higher in the final round and finished in eighth place.

Dylan Igo led the way with a 74 in the final round as he closed at 146. He was tied for 19th with Ryan Roberts who finished with a 77 in the final round. Jacob Prentice had a 76 in the final round as he tied for 40th at 76. Cristian Valderrama recorded his second straight 77 to close at 154 in a tie for 66th. Rhett Bechtel rounded out the five with an 81 for a 155 and a tie for 73rd.

Southwestern Oklahoma State finished ninth at 595, Arkansas-Monticello and Harding tied for 13th at 301 and Oklahoma Baptist finished 16th at 612. Southern Arkansas tied for 17th at 614 and Northwestern Oklahoma State took 20th at 640.

The Northeastern State men’s golf team wrapped up the Dave Falconer Classic in 10th place.  The RiverHawks shot 10-over-par 298 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 21-over 597 (299-298).

Junior Tate Williamson shot even-par 144 (72-72) to tie for 12th, while junior Marc Johnson (74-77) and true freshman Hunter Pennington (78-73) both tied for 44th at 7-over 151. Senior Brent Williamson landed in a tie for 56th at 9-over 153 (75-78), while true freshman Garrett McDaniel tied for 89th at 14-over 158 (82-76).

Northeastern State will now gear up for its next competition, which will be the Rattler Invitational March 14-15. Next week’s tournament will be held at the Golf Club of Texas in San Antonio, Texas.
