SNU, Hearne in hunt in Heber Springs

HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – Playing in its final regular season tournament of the year, Southern Nazarene is in the hunt for its first tournament title of the year.

The Crimson Storm are just five strokes back of Henderson State on the 6,451-yard course at the Natural State Golf Classic hosted at the Red Apple Inn and Country Club. The Storm posted a 280 and has four of its top five inside the top 15. Michael Hearne shot a 67 and is tied for second, just one stroke back of Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Mason Horner. The senior had six birdies on the day and shot a 33 on the front nine.

Luke Coppedge, Dalton Rhoden and Cristian Valderrama all shot a 71 and are tied for 12th. Dylan Igo was just three shots over par and is tied for 22nd with a 74.

Henderson State, along with Arkansas Tech and Southeastern Oklahoma State have all received votes in the latest GCAA Top 25 Poll and are ranked ahead of SNU in the Central Region Poll. The Crimson Storm are four shots ahead of Arkansas Tech and eight shots up on Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Harding is in fifth at 289, while Arkansas-Monticello is sixth at 295. Ouachita Baptist is in ninth at 308.

The final round will conclude Tuesday morning barring any inclement weather.
