With a double bogey on the 18th hole, Yujeong Son of Norman lost 1 up to Anna Ruiz of Mexico in the first round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship Wednesday at San Diego Country Club.

Son fell behind early in the match, and trailed by three holes through 11 and still trailed by two through 15, but won holes 16 and 17 to even the match before running into trouble on the par-4 18th, allowing Ruiz to win the match with a bogey of her own.

Son recently competed in both the U.S. Girls Junior, reaching the third round of match play in that event, and in the Girls Junior PGA Championship, where she tied for 11th.
