NORMAN – Oklahoma women’s golfer Julienne Soo completed the second round of the 2017 NCAA Championships in a share of 66th place. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,343-yard Rich Harvest Farms course in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Sunday’s round marked only the second of the event as Saturday’s round was canceled due to inclement weather. Teams and individuals were originally scheduled to compete in 54 holes of stroke play Friday-Sunday with the top-15 team and top-nine individuals not on an advancing team moving on to one final round of stroke play on Monday, but with the cancelation, all teams and individuals will now compete in a final stroke-play session on Monday.
Soo tallied a 77 (+5) on Sunday, improving from an opening-round 82 (+10) in Friday’s brutal conditions to hold a 159 (+15) through 36 holes. The sophomore, who began on hole No. 1, pocketed three birdies on the day, including two in the final three holes, to move up 14 spots on the leaderboard.
“Jules started poorly but did a great job of staying focused,” OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “It would have been easy to get mad, but she kept her composure and finished well.”
Jennifer Kupcho (Wake Forest) leads the field of 132 with a 144 (E), while Purdue’s August Kim holds second at 145 (+1). Monica Vaughn (Arizona State) and Ainhoa Olarra (South Carolina) share third at 146 (+2).
Northwestern (599; +23) tops the team leaderboard, and Kent State is in second place at 607 (+31). Stanford sits in third place at 609 (+33).
Soo will tee off for the final round of the NCAA Championships on Monday at 1:35 p.m. CT. Live scoring and results are available at GolfStat.com.
