The No. 24 Oklahoma women’s golf team finished Sunday’s third and final round of the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational tied for fourth place. The 13-team tournament was played at the par-72, 6,227-yard Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
The Sooners logged a 1-over 289 on the day for a three-round 879. No. 17 Arizona was the tournament champion, carding an 850, and New Mexico State came in second at 871. Houston rounded out the top three of the leaderboard with an 874.
Julienne Soo came out with a share of seventh place out of 75 competitors at even-par 216. Soo paced the Sooners throughout the tournament and played bogey-free for seventeen holes in Sunday’s final round, shooting an even 72.
Junior Valerie Tanguay ended the day shooting a 73 and tied for 16th place at 4-over 220. The junior recorded three birdies in Sunday’s round.
Junior Rylee Pedigo played her best round Sunday at 2-under 70 and finished tied for 20th at 221, moving up 21 spots.
Ana Ruiz tied for 33rd place for the Sooners at 224 after a 75, Hannah Wood also joined teammate Ruiz finishing in a share of 33rd place at 224 with a 74.
“We definitely improved each day,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “I’m proud of the way the girls responded to our challenge about having fun and enjoying it more out there. We dug ourselves a hole the first day and it was hard to play catch up, but we improved every day and that’s what we need.”
The Sooners return to the course on March 17-19 in Mesa, Ariz., for the Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club.
