It will be an all-Sooner finale in the 100th Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship, as University of Oklahoma teammates Kaitlin Milligan and Sydney Youngblood survived tough semifinal matches Wednesday to reach Thursday morning’s championship match at Meadowbrook Country Club.

Milligan held off 2005 champion Michaela Dierinzo of Owasso 2 and 1 while Youngblood went to the final hole before getting past Kate Goodwin of Tulsa 1 up.

Dierinzo birdied the first hole but quickly fell behind Milligan and trailed by three through seven holes. She battled back with a birdie on the par-4 12th and pars on holes 13 and 14 to square the match. Milligan birdied the par-5 15th to get the lead back and added another hole when Dierinzo made bogey on the par-3 16th.

Youngblood had a four-hole advantage on Goodwin through 13 holes, but the Oklahoma Christian golfer who has won two events already this summer, the Dallas Collegiate Championship and a South Central PGA Players’ Tour event in Stillwater, came roaring back.

Goodwin won 14 with a birdie, 15 when Youngblood made bogey and the 17th hole with a beautiful pitch shot from the left rough to three feet for another birdie. Youngblood was forced to two-putt from long distance on the par-4 18th to secure the win and move into the finals against her OU teammate.

Youngblood, a former four-time state high school champion at Durant, and Milligan, the 2017 Class 6A state champion at Norman North and one of the longest players in women’s collegiate golf, were both starters on the OU team that reached the 2018 NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek in Stillwater.
