The No. 24-ranked Oklahoma women’s golf team opened its spring season by claiming third place at the Moon Golf Invitational. The Sooners finished with a 54-hole score of 859 (-5) at the par-72, 6,262-yard Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
The Sooners shot an even 288 on the final day of play to secure its fourth top-five finish on the 2018-19 season.
UCF took first place with an 849 (-15). OU finished one stroke behind Louisville who finished in second by posting 858 (-6).
“It’s nice to get our first event under our belt,” said OU assistant coach Ryan Sirman. “We saw some positives things that we will build on back home. It is important for us to stick to the process and grow as a team each and every day. Looking forward to our next event out in Arizona.”
Freshman Libby Winans paced the Sooners throughout the weekend, finishing with a share of fifth place (211; -5) for her first top-five and third top-10 performance this season. Winans posted a 67 (-5) in round two to lead the 90-player field. She finished the event with a 75 (+3) in her final round.
Julienne Soo tied for 13th (213; -3) after shooting a 70 (-2) on the final day. Soo was one shot out of the top-10 and recorded her third top-20 finish this season.
Freshman Kaitlin Milligan finished tied for 20th (215; -1), carding a team-best 69 (-3) on Tuesday. Milligan collected six birdies in her final round.
Sydney Youngblood finished the tournament with a share of 42nd (220; +4) while Karen Arimoto tied for 77th (233, +17).
The Sooners return to action on Feb. 24 when the team will travel to Peoria, Ariz. for the Westbrook Spring Invitational.
