NORMAN – The No. 12 Oklahoma men’s golf team ended the East Lake Cup on a strong note Wednesday, topping Oregon, 4-1, in the consolation match in Atlanta.

Riley Casey, Brad Dalke, Blaine Hale and Garett Reband all earn match-play victories to help the Sooners claim third place in their first appearance at the East Lake Cup. The event featured the top-four finishers from the 2017 NCAA Championships competing in a one-day stroke play, two-day match play competition. Wednesday’s contest was a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Championship final.

Hale led from wire-to-wire, rolling past Oregon’s Norman Xiong, 6 and 5. Through nine holes, Hale was 6 up against Xiong and the junior closed out the match with a par on hole No. 13.

Reband and Casey both picked up their second match-play victories of the week at East Lake. Reband claimed a 2 and 1 victory over Ryan Gronlund and led the entire way during his match. Casey posted a 3 and 2 win over Oregon’s Edwin Yi, making par on hole No. 16 to clinch the match for the Sooners.

Dalke rolled to a 5 and 4 win over Oregon’s Donald Kay. Dalke grabbed the lead for good with a par on hole No. 3 and never looked back. The junior pushed is lead to 6 up at one point and sealed the match on hole No. 14.

Oregon’s lone point came from Thomas Mulligan, who defeated OU’s Grant Hirschman, 5 and 4.

The Sooners wrapped up their fall slate with a tournament title on Oct. 3, winning the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational in Portland, Ore. OU finished in the top-3 in four of its fall five events.
