The No. 7 Oklahoma men’s golf team finished in second place out of eight teams at the Carmel Cup while Oklahoma State placed sixth. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the iconic par-72, 6,828-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
In Sunday’s final round, the Sooners recorded a 352 (-8). OU finished with a three-day total of 1051 (-29), just six strokes back of Texas Tech’s 1045 (-35). Arkansas placed third, one shot behind the Sooners, while Georgia and TCU rounded out the top five.
“This was a great start to the year and lots of positives from the week,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl. “Our guys had the opportunity to feel some heat today and that is very valuable for us moving forward. Time to get ready for Minnesota.”
Freshman Turner Hosch was OU’s top finisher, earning a share of third place with a three-round 205 (-11) in his first tournament as a Sooner. Hosch carded a birdie on each of the last four holes during Sunday’s final round, posting a 69 (-3) for his third straight round under par.
Senior Garett Reband took home seventh. For the fourth year in a row, Reband earned a top-10 finish, recording a three-day total of 206 (-10). Reband shot a 71 (-1) in the final round of action.
Sophomore Blake Lorenz finished the tournament with an overall 220, sharing 33rd place. Lorenz posted a 69 to round out OU’s lineup.
Senior Thomas Johnson shot a 1-over par, 73, in the last day of play. Johnson recorded a three-round total of 223 to finish in 37th place.
OU heads to Hopkins, Minnesota, Sept. 8-10, for the Gopher Invitational.
Oklahoma State’s posted its low round at The Carmel Cup on Sunday, tallying a 5-under 355 to finish tied for sixth place at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The Cowboys finished with a 54-hole total of 1,083, 3-over par, knotting them with Mississippi State at the par-72, 6,828-yard layout.
Tech’s Sandy Scott used a closing 65 to claim medalist honors, finishing at 14-under 202.
OSU junior Austin Eckroat fired a 7-under score of his own to move up 12 spots into a tie for 13th place at 5-under 211. Eckroat birdied two of his first three holes before adding birdies at the sixth and seventh for a bogey-free outward nine of 32. After posting a birdie at the 11th, he carded back-to-back birdies at Nos. 14 and 15 before notching his lone bogey at the 16th. Eckroat would close with a birdie at the 18thfor his 65.
Senior Ferdinand Müller closed with a 74 to finish at 215 and tied for 20th place.
Freshman Brian Stark wrapped up his first collegiate event with a 71 for a 216 total, tying him for 23rdplace.
Classmate Rayhan Thomas signed for a 73 to tie for 28th place at 219, while sophomore Aman Gupta carded a 74 to finish at 224 and tied for 38th place.
Freshman Dillon Stewart finished in 46th place at 230 after posting a 72.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Sept. 20 when they begin play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
