The No. 13 Oklahoma men’s golf team claimed sixth place at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the par-72, 7,005-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
The Sooners shot a 2-under 286 in Sunday’s final round to bring their total to 852 (-12).
“It wasn’t the team round we were looking for, that is for sure, but I am really proud of Brad (Dalke) for his big time round today,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “It is exactly what he needed, and it carried us today. It will be time to regroup next week and figure out how we need to get better.”
Central Florida claimed the team title with a three-round 28-under 836. No. 8 Wake Forest took second at 840 and New Mexico finished third with an 843. No. 7 Illinois claimed fourth with an 847, and tournament host Augusta placed fifth at 849 (-15).
Junior Grant Hirschman was OU’s best finisher. With a 73 in the final round, Hirschman carded a 5-under 211 on the weekend and earned a share of 10th. This showing marks his fourth consecutive top-20 placing and his third top-10 finish of the season.
Sophomore Blaine Hale claimed a piece of 25th place with a 54-hole 214. The Dallas, Texas, native recorded a 74 in the final round.
Senior Max McGreevy finished one stroke behind Hale in a tie for 30th place. After struggling on the front nine, McGreevy bounced back on the back nine to go bogey-free and sink an eagle on the par-five 11th hole and a birdie on the 14th.
Sophomore Brad Dalke improved in the final round, matching a career-low 66 (-6) with eight birdies on the day. He advanced 31 places in the individual leaderboard to claim a share of 38th place with an overall 217.
Dalke will look to build off his successful Sunday round as he remains in Augusta to compete in The Masters. The sophomore earned an invitation to compete in golf’s most prestigious event by finishing as runner-up at the 2016 U.S. Amateur. Dalke will tee off in the opening round at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday.
Rounding out the OU lineup was junior Rylee Reinertson, who tallied a 73 in Sunday’s round to total a 220 and tie for 51st.
The Sooners will close out their regular season April 14-15 (Friday-Saturday) at The Maxwell in Edmond, Okla.
