The No 21 University of Oklahoma women’s golf team topped No. 19 Oklahoma State, 8.5-5.5, on Saturday. The Bedlam Cup match-play event was held at the par-72, 6,346-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

The event featured seven morning one-on-one matches and eight more in the afternoon. Pairings were refigured after the opening set of matches.

The Sooners trailed 4-3 after the morning matches and tallied wins from Karen Arimoto, Hannah Wood and Julienne Soo.

Arimoto, a sophomore, controlled her morning session, downing Alexis Sadeghy, 4 and 3. Wood overcame an early deficit to defeat OSU’s McCandren Mack, 1 up. The junior was 4 down through eight but as able to rally and earn the point for the Sooners. No. 43 Soo, who matched up with No. 31 Maddie McCrary and Kenzie Neisen in the early round, topped Neisen, 1 up, and fell to McCrary, 2 down.

In the afternoon, Ana Ruiz dominated Mack, winning 8 and 7 after 11 holes. Wood was all square through 16 but won her final two holes to down Alexis Sadeghy, 2 up, and put the Sooners up 6-5. Junior Rylee Pedigo faced off with OSU’s Linnea Johansson and tallied another point for Oklahoma with a 2 and 1 win.

Soo overcame a 2-down deficit after 12 holes and halved her matchup with Isabella Deilert in the afternoon, and junior Valerie Tanguay finished the day on fire, topping Chih-Min Chen (3&2) and Neisen (2&1).

With the win, the Sooners showed just how much difference one year can make. Last season, virtually the same OU lineup fell 13.5-2.5 to the same Cowgirl lineup in Stillwater.

“This year we saw a huge difference. I think part of it is that we’re older and we’ve matured a lot,” OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “The girls have put in some serious time and effort to their game and it’s showing. It’s nice to actually win this heading into postseason. It definitely gives the girls some confidence. I think this is why we do this tournament so close to the Big 12 Championship. It’s a great showcase for the players and to have everyone involved makes it great.”

Oklahoma returns to the course next Friday-Saturday, April 21-23, in San Antonio, Texas, for the Big 12 Championship.
