Sooners perched in fifth entering final round of Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN – No. 10 Oklahoma women’s golf is in fifth place entering Monday’s final round of the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman. The Sooners shot an 11-over 295 on Sunday and is 4-over par through two rounds at the par-71, 6,046 Belmar Golf Club. The University of Tulsa is languishing in 15th place.

OU (572) is two strokes out of second place and 10 strokes behind frontrunner No. 3 Alabama (562). The final round of the 54-hole tournament will be televised by Sooner Sports TV from 1:00-3:30 p.m. CT on Fox Sports Southwest and Fox College Sports Pacific.

“We had a rough start and had trouble catching back up,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We need to learn from a day like today and embrace the opportunity we have in tomorrow’s final round.”

Senior Ana Ruiz carded a team-best 1-over 72. Ruiz produced 14 pars and a pair of birdies to bounce back after shooting a 74 (+1) in the first round. The senior is tied for 38th through two rounds.

Junior Julienne Soo closed her round with consecutive birdies to finish with a 2-over 73. Soo, who shot a 68 (-3) in Saturday’s opening round, is tied for ninth place at 1-under par.

Freshman Kaitlin Milligan and senior Valerie Tanguay both recorded a 75 (+4). Milligan is tied for 14th place (142, even) and Tanguay sits in a tie for 31st place (145, +3). Redshirt freshman Sydney Youngblood shot a 76 (+5) and is tied for 49th place (148, +6).

Senior Hannah Wood, competing in the even as an individual, is tied for third place at 3-under par. Wood shot an even 71, overcoming a pair of bogeys on the first five holes to score par or better on all of the final 13 holes.

OU freshman Hannah Lee (71, -1) and junior Karen Arimoto (74, +3) are also competing as individuals. Both golfers are tied for 43rd (147, +5).

The Sooners tee off for the final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Live results are available on BirdieFire.com.

The Tulsa women’s golf team turned in a round of 293 and has a 365-hole total of 599. Tulsa’s Anneke Strobach turned in the best day for the Hurricane with a 1-under par 70, but after yesterday’s score of 80 is in 61st place overall.

Juniors Johanna Samuelsson and Olivia Jackson lead the Tulsa team in 54th place with identical scores of 7-over par 149. They each carded a round of 74 today after shooting 75s on Saturday.

Senior Nicole Marquardt has a 153 total for 68th place, while sophomore Taylor Dobson is in 78th place with a score of 159.

Final round action takes place on Monday.
