After the first two rounds of the Gopher Invitational, the No. 7 Oklahoma men’s golf team is tied for sixth place at 3-over 571.
The Sooners carded a 1-over 285 to open Sunday’s action before closing the day with a 286 in the afternoon to end the day tied with Purdue. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-71, 7,368-yard Windsong Farm Golf Course.
Baylor leads the 13-team field with a 36-hole score of 8-under 560, followed by Texas A&M at 563 in second place. West Virginia and Arkansas are tied for third place at 566 while Marquette rounds out the top-five at 568 after round one.
“We had our chances today but just couldn’t capitalize on the greens,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl. “With weather moving in tomorrow, a good round will go a long ways and we need that.”
Freshman Turner Hosch leads the Sooners after posting an overall 142 in the opening day of play. Hosch set the pace for the team firing a 70 (-1) in the morning round and a 72, in the afternoon round. The freshman earned an eagle on hole No. 12 and posted five birdies on the day.
Seniors Garett Reband and Quade Cummins are both tied for 20th with an overall score of 143. Reband started the day with a 73, but rebounded with a 70, in the second round. Cummins shot 70-73.
Sophomore Patrick Welch and Senior Thomas Johnson each shot 145 to share 31st place. The final round of the Gopher Invitational is scheduled for Monday. OU will begin at 7:00 a.m. CT. The Sooners will be paired with Utah and Kent State and will start the final round from hole No. 1.
