South Central PGA Foundation fundraiser at Gaillardia CC

Prepare to be amazed by trick shot artist Kevin Compare and magician Kevin Dawson at a special reception open to the public Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.

The event is a fund raiser by the South Central Section PGA Foundation to purchase SNAG (Start New at Golf) equipment for every YMCA in greater Oklahoma City.

The cost of the event, which will feature a variety of food & beverage, a keynote talk by PGA of America Secretary Paul Levy, and SNAG demonstrations, is $25 for adults. Children 13 and under are free.

"Both of my children participate in YMCA youth sports, and I am always amazed at the number of parents and kids at the soccer fields, gymnasiums, and baseball fields on weeknights and weekends," said Peter Vitali, president of the South Central PGA and vice president of business development at Gaillardia CC.

"It can be difficult to bring kids to a course when they are unfamiliar with golf, but a SNAG program in every YMCA outlet would bring the game of golf directly to them," Vitali said. "Because the YMCA is inclusive and its mission is to serve kids from all backgrounds and families of all income levels, it is the perfect springboard for early development in golf programs. It is my belief that, with a successful launch of this program at YMCAs in Oklahoma City this year, it will become the model for SNAG in YMCAs nationwide and for the elementary school PE curriculum."

SNAG uses oversize plastic clubs, balls similar to a tennis ball and velcro targets and can safely be played indoors or outdoors. Children learn the proper fundamentals while also having fun and it can be played as a team sport as well.
