OKLAHOMA CITY — Southern Nazarene came out strong in the first round of the Broncho Invitational at Gaillardia Country Club, posting a 301, two shots behind Central Missouri. The Crimson Storm slid down the board as the second round progressed but six teams were unable to finish the round due to darkness. Second-round play will conclude and the final round will take place Tuesday.
A pair of Oklahoma State players playing unattached shared the individual lead as Nick Heinen and Brendon Jelley each shot even-par 144.
The Crimson Storm posted a 310 in their second round, totaling a 611 for the day. Preston Lovett and Rhett Bechtel led the way for SNU as the pair each posted a two-round score over of 151 at Gallardia Country Club. Lovett and Bechtel are seven shots behind the leaders after the two rounds. Dylan Igo and Ondrej Melichar finished their day with a 156 total for the two rounds, while Jacob Prentice posted a 160.
Wesley Jackson shot a 76 to lead host Central Oklahoma in the first round. The Bronchos were tied for fifth in the team standings. Central Missouri leads the 17-team event with a 299 first-round total, followed by Southern Nazarene (301), Henderson State (304) and Missouri Southern (307), with UCO and Washburn tied for fifth at 309.
Jackson’s 76 paced the Bronchos, who also got 77s from Cody Troutman and Eli Armstrong, a 79 from Nick Pierce and an 80 from Alberto Ruiz-Nava. Four players are competing as individual medalists for UCO — Alexander Hughes (76), Peyton Knell (79), Holden Crago (80) and T.J. Eckert (82).
