Southern Nazarene wins GAC Preview at Lake Hefner

OKLAHOMA CITY – Down six shots after the first round and three after the second, Southern Nazarene ran down the competition to win its first GAC Preview Tuesday at Lake Hefner Golf Course. The Crimson Storm took home first place after an impressive 278 Tuesday, as three of the five players shot under par.

Rhett Bechtel had a fantastic two days, as he fired a tournament-low 66 in his final round  after opening with rounds of 74-70 as Southern Nazarene finished six strokes ahead of second place finisher Oklahoma Baptist. Bechtel totaled 18 birdies in the tournament en-route to a second place finish with his 210 total. That was just two shots behind Oklahoma Baptist’s Lucas Coapman who took home the individual title with a 208.

Playing as an individual and his first career college tournament, freshman Brady Liles finished in third place after posting a final round 69. Liles had a 211 tournament total. Dylan Igo finished in sixth place individually after a final round 69 and a 215 tournament total. Ryan Roberts also finished in the top 10 with a 217, that put him in a tie for ninth. Preston Lovett finished in a tie for 14th at 221, while Ondrej Melichar finished in a tie for 24th with a 230 total.

The Storm as a team shot an 860 and finished six shots ahead of second place Oklahoma Baptist. SNU was seven shots higher than third place finisher Southern Arkansas. Arkansas-Monticello finished fourth after an 871, and Northwestern Oklahoma State finished fifth with an 890.

SNU also had three other players entered as individuals as freshman Parker Milligan and Lewis Boatright both finished tied for 27th after a 231 two-day total. Ethan Johnson finished alone in 34th after posting a 239.

The Crimson Storm will be in Muskogee next Monday and Tuesday for the NSU Classic at Muskogee Country Club.
