OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – SWOSU Men’s Golf team took the Great American Conference Preview for a second straight year as the team improved their score by seven strokes in the final round of competition to finish with a score of 860 (-4). The Bulldogs placed four golfers in the Top 10, and all six SWOSU golfers that competed finished inside the Top 20.
Stefan Idstam and Marquez Gomez surged ahead in the final round of the tournament to tie for fifth overall after both were found sitting on the outside of the Top 10 entering Tuesday’s round. Gomez turned in the round of the tournament for the Bulldogs, hitting a 67 (-5) to finish even at 216. Idstam also went under in the third round, carding a 69 (-3) to match Gomez with a 216 (E). Both scores represented career-best marks on Lake Hefner Golf Club’s North course for the pair of juniors.
Jake Duvall and Nicolas Cornu tied for ninth after shooting 218 (+2) over 54 holes of play. Cornu entered the day in first place overall, but turned in a 77 (+5) in the final round. Duvall improved on his play from a day earlier, shooting a 69 (-3) on the final day of competition. Rounding out the qualifying bags was Joby Gray, who was the steady hand and shot a second 73 (+1) to finish tied for 13th overall with a score of 220 (+4).
Competing as an individual at the GAC Preview was Manuel Arzuaga, who shot a 69 (-3) on Tuesday afternoon to card a 221 (+5) and earn a share of 18th place.
