ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Joby Gray shot a 1-under 70 in the final round of the Holiday Inn Express Classic on Tuesday, earning a co-championship at the event and his second tournament title as a Bulldog. Gray also led the Bulldogs to a share of second place at the tournament, the third straight runnerup finish for SWOSU, as they finished four shots behind Central Missouri and tied with Arkansas Tech.
Gray was even par after two rounds on Monday and came back with a 70 (-1) on Tuesday to share the tournament championship with Eli Armstrong of Central Oklahoma. Stefan Idstam also shot a 70 (-1) to finish five over for the tournament with a three-round score of 218, which earned him a top-ten finish as he tied for eighth place.
Marques Gomez finished tied for 14th after shooting 8-over 221, while Kason Cook (T30, +15) and Ole Hatlelid (T40, +17) rounded out the scoring. The Bulldogs finish with a team total of 876 strokes, 24 shots over par.
Armstrong shot rounds of 70-72-70 to tie Gray at 1-under 212 and help UCO finish fourth, just one shot out of second and five shots behind Central Missouri. Also for UCO, Nick Pierce tied for fourth at 216, Wesley Jackson tied for 30th at 228, Alberto Ruiz Nava tied for 40th at 230 as did Alexander Hughes.
Northeastern State placed 11th in the 20-team field as Tate Williamson led NSU with a 225 (79-76-75) and finished tied for 22nd place.
Tyler Shelnutt finished tied for 30th place with a 228 (74-78-76) and Garrett McDaniel was three shots back (79-74-78) tied for 47th place. Hunter Pennington (76-80-80) and Justin Allenback (79-79-78) were tied for 68th place with matching 236 scores.
