MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (April 7) — Marla Souvannasing fired a 2-under-par 70 to rally for the individual championship and lead Central Oklahoma to yet another team title at the Henderson State First Federal Invitational here Tuesday.
The Bronchos closed with a 304 to finish two trips around the par-72 Big Creek Country Club with a 600 total, 10 shots clear of runner-up and tournament host Henderson State. Lindenwood was third in the 11-team tourney at 631, followed by Missouri Western (651) and Arkansas-Monticello (660).
It’s the seventh team crown in nine tournaments this year for UCO, which finished second by one stroke in each of its other two events.
"We struggled a little big overall, but Marla played great today and really carried us," head coach Michael Bond said. "She was on her game both days and just keeps getting better."
Souvannasing ended with a two-day total of 1-under 143 in earning medalist honors for the third time this year. The freshman standout had 25 pars, five birdies and an eagle against just four bogeys and a double bogey in the 36-hole event.
The Bronchos also got 77s from Bethany Darrough and Katie Bensch in the final round, while Daniela Martinez and Lindsey Bensch both shot 80.
All five UCO players finished in the top 12 individually, with Darrough and Martinez tying for fourth, L. Bensch tying for ninth and K. Bench coming in 12th.
The Bronchos are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Spring Central Regional Preview in Springfield, Mo.
