Stars hit rough patch in Islander Classic, finish 20th

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Kailey Campbell paced Oklahoma City University by sharing 20th place in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic on Tuesday at Corpus Christi Country Club.

OCU, ranked sixth in NAIA women’s golf, placed ninth. The Stars shot 315-320-311–946 to finish above NCAA Division I Incarnate Word and NCAA Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Texas-San Antonio took first place out of the 11-team field featuring eight D-I teams.

Campbell, a junior from Oktaha, fired a 76-83-73–232 on the par-72, 6,093-yard course. Caroline Goodin and Abby Thompson followed with shares of 30th and 36th place, respectfully. Goodin, a junior from Oklahoma City, shot an 80-77-79–236, and Thompson, a senior from Edmond, shot 79-80-79–238.

Emma Allen provided the Stars with an 80-80-80–240, while Anna Mikish turned in an 80-89-84–253.

OCU’s Raegan Barnes shot 76-83-78–237, while Katie-Lee Wilson had scores of 88-90-83–261 playing unattached.

Play started with 68-degree temperatures and a 5 mph wind. The high temperature was 81 degrees, while wind topped off at 22 mph.

The Stars are back in action in the Southern Nazarene Invitational on March 7-8 at  Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond.
