Streb has rough final nine at Memorial, impressive debut for Taylor Moore

Since opening his second round with a triple bogey-bogey start to drop from 4-under to even par, Robert Streb played the next 43 holes at Muirfield Village in a sizzling 15-under par to pull within a shot of the lead.

It appeared the Edmond North graduate was hot and in great shape to pull off the most prestigious victory of his career. That dream ended quickly, however, with a disastrous start to his final nine.  Streb bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes, then suffered a double bogey on the par-3 12th. Even though the other leaders also struggled on the back nine, that three-hole stretch was too much to overcome.

Streb eventually added two more bogeys and one birdie, shooting 41 on the back and 10-under overall to tie for 20th. Certainly not what he hoped for, but including the opening round 68 a sign that he may be ready to make a run as he did in 2015.  He moved from 115 to 104 in the Fed-Ex Cup standings.

It was an interesting weekend for other pros with Oklahoma ties as well.

Taylor Moore of Edmond, one week after concluding his amateur career at the University of Arkansas in the NCAA Championship, shot 15-under par and finished second in his debut on the PGA’s MacKenzie Tour in Canada. The top five players on that tour and the LatinoAmerica Tour earn cards for the 2017 Web.com Tour. Currently former Oklahoma State player Talor Gooch of Midwest City is tied for third on the MacKenzie Tour standings.

Kevin Tway of Edmond finished tied for 11th at last weekend’s Web.com Tour event in Puerto Rico. He is currently 28th on the Web.com Tour standings and the top 25 earn PGA Tour cards. Former Tulsan Tag Ridings is 22nd.

Many great young Oklahoma players will be competing next week in The Buffalo Run Casino & Resort Classic, an Adams Tour event June 15-18 at Peoria Ridge in Miami. Admission is free.
