SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 16, 2016) – Elin Wahlin shot a second-round 75 to place seventh individually and boost Southwest Oklahoma State to a sixth place finish in the Lady Rattler Invitational Tuesday at the Dominion Country Club.
Gloria Choi tied for 23rd after a second-round 80, while Emily Folsom tied for 36th after rounds of 83-82. Also Chloe Thackeray shot 83 and Courtney Gourdin 85.
India Matthews posted the first individual top-10 finish of her junior season, leading Oklahoma Christian to an eighth-place team finish.
Matthews fired an 8-over-par 80 on the 5,910-yard course and tied for eighth at 155, 11 shots behind the individual champion, Kelly Contreras of tournament host St. Mary’s (Texas). The Rattlers also won the team title with a team score of 604.
OC posted a final-day team score of 331 to finish at 651. The Lady Eagles dropped three spots in the 18-team field as a result.
Besides Matthews’ top-10 finish, another bright spot Tuesday for OC was the play of freshman Elizabeth Freeman, who shot an 80, a six-shot improvement over her first-round score. Freeman finished tied for 41st in the 94-woman field.
OC senior Audrey Meisch shot an 82 and tied for 30th individually at 163. Junior Allison Sell’s 90 left her at 168, tied for 49th, while freshman Kate Goodwin shot an 89 and tied for 76th at 177.
The Lady Eagles will resume their spring season in three weeks in the Diffie Ford-Lincoln Invitational, to be played at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.
