Three members of the No. 20 Oklahoma men’s golf team were among the 35 student-athletes named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Golf Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Senior Beau Titsworth (finance), junior Max McGreevy (administrative leadership) and sophomore Grant Hirschman (energy management) earned first-team honors, which requires a 3.20 or better GPA. The first-team award is the third in a row for Titsworth and the first for McGreevy and Hirschman.
Titsworth, McGreevy and Hirschman also serve as the OU men’s golf team captains this season.
“They know what the expectations are about managing academics and golf, and these guys have always done a great job of that,†OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “To be a golfer and a good student is hard because we miss a lot of class, so it’s all a credit to them and our tutors and their work ethic.â€
From the conference’s nine universities with men’s golf programs, 30 student-athletes were named to the first team, while five earned second-team spots.
To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or over each of the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners will return to the course this weekend, April 16-17, at the Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
