Tulsa places fifth in season opener

Columbia, Mo –– Logan McCracken led the Tulsa men’s golf team to a fifth-place performance at the season-opening Columbia Regional Preview on Tuesday. The Tulsa golfers finished with a 54-hole score of 879 after today’s score of 294 at the par-72 The Club at Old Hawthorne.
 
McCracken also finished in fifth-place in the individual race with a final 18-hole score of 70 today to complete the tournament with a total of 4-under par 212. The senior birdied his first hole, the par-3 third, then went on to birdie holes 10, 12, 15 and 17. He suffered one bogey and one double-bogey on the day.
 
Junior Colton Staggs had a birdie on hole 3 and pared each of the remaining 17 holes to finish the day with a 1-under par 71 and a three-round total of 219 for 19th place.
 
Tulsa’s Matt Mabrey and Mark Mumford tied for 33rd place with scores of 224. Mabrey turned in a round of 77 today, while Mumford had a 76. Cody Kent finished in 62nd place overall with a 240 total.
 
Host Missouri claimed the team title with a 12-under par 852 total, while Iowa State (857), Austin Peay (870), San Francisco (876) and Tulsa (879) rounding out the top five schools.
 
Second round leader, Emilio Cuartero of Missouri finished with a five-stroke victory with an 11-under par 205 total.

Tulsa is back in action beginning Sunday at the Windon Memorial Classic, which takes place Sunday-Monday, Sept. 22-23. The 54-hole event takes place at the Skokie Country Club in Evanston, Illinois.
