Manhattan, Kansas — The Tulsa women’s golf team sit in third place after the first 36 holes at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Monday. The Hurricane carded an opening round 319, and shot 13 strokes better in second round action for a round of 306 at the par-72 Colbert Hills Golf Course.
Tulsa sophomore Antonia Von Wnuck is in sixth place individually with a 36-hole total of 153. After an 8-over par opening round 80, Von Wnuck came back on her final 18 holes with a 1-over par 73.
Von Wnuck began her second round on hole 4 with an eagle on the par-4, but gave the two strokes back four holes later with a double bogey on the par-3 8th hole. She then birdied the par-4 ninth. On the next 10 holes, Von Wnuck had four bogeys and two birdie putts.
Senior Kayla Riede turned in identical rounds of 79 for a 158 total to put her in 18th place after 36 holes. Junior Franziska Voellinger and senior Karson Bizzell are tied for 22nd place with scores of 160. Voellinger turned in two rounds of 80, while Bizzell shot 12 strokes better for her second 18 holes with a 2-over par 74.
Tulsa junior Alex Haun goes into Tuesday’s final round in 42nd place after rounds of 80 and 83 for a 163 total.
Kansas has a 13-stroke lead over second-place Kansas State with a 602 total, while the host Wildcats turned in a two-round total of 615. Tulsa scored a two-round total of 625 for third place, while Arkansas State (630) and Oral Roberts (633) round out the top-5 teams. KU’s Yupaporn Kawinpakorn and Kansas State’s Gianna Misenhelter are tied for first place at two-over par 146.
Alejandra Acosta led the way for ORU as all 15 teams tried to recover from abnormally high scores in the first round. Acosta fired a 79-75 for a two-round total of 154, tying for 10th overall. Shinwoo Lee’s 36-hole score of 158 (78-80) put her in a tie for 18th. Entered as the fifth player for ORU, Paty Torres played well, shooting 82-79 (161) to finish third on the team and tied for 27th overall.
Paola Aviles’ 164 (81-83) put her tied for 45th and Alheli Moreno recovered from a first-round 87 to shoot 79 in the second round, finishing the day at 166, tied for 50th overall.The Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
