OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University opens its 2014-15 men’s golf season hosting the 42nd U.C. Ferguson Classic, at 8 a.m. Monday and Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Stars hold the top spot in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason NAIA rankings. Three top 25 teams join Oklahoma City in the 12-team field – ninth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist, 19th-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) and No. 24 The Master’s (Calif.).
The U.C. Ferguson Classic will be the Stars’ only regular-season golf tournament in the Oklahoma City area and OCU’s first athletic home event of 2014-15. OCU and the first group of teams tee off at 8 a.m. Monday. OCU’s Black team will start at 8:37 a.m.
Lincoln Park, located at 4001 NE Grand Boulevard in Oklahoma City, serves as the home course for OCU’s men’s and women’s golf teams, who have combined for 16 NAIA national championships. Lincoln Park rates as one of Oklahoma’s finest public golf courses. The course was designed by Art Jackson and built in 1923. It features bent grass on the greens and Bermuda grass on the fairways. The course will set up as a par-71, 6,576-yard layout.
