UCO clinging to eighth spot in Division II Championship

HERSHEY, Pa. (May 21) – Dillon Rust got off to a blazing start and ended up shooting a one-under-par 70 to lead Central Oklahoma in the second round of the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships here Tuesday.

 Rust birdied four of his first five holes en route to his under-par round and the Bronchos ended up with a 300 on the day, giving them a 36-hole total of 597.  The leaves UCO eighth in the 20-team field heading into Wednesday’s final round of stroke play, with the top eight teams advancing to match play that will determine the national champion.

 Barry leads with a 572 total, 10 shots ahead of defending champion Nova Southeastern.

 Rust had the low score by five strokes for UCO, with the Bronchos also getting a 75 from Logan Waresback, 77s from Trevor Stafford and Chris Muriana and a 78 from Eric Kline.

 Rust started his round on the back nine and was four-under through five holes before giving two shots back with consecutive bogeys on his seventh and eighth holes.  He finished with a two-under 33 before coming back with eight pars and a bogey on his back nine for a 37.

The senior standout is eighth in the individual standings with a one-over 143 total.
