UCO leads Lincoln Invitational, Kline seizes individual lead

CAMDENTON, Mo. – UCO Junior Eric Kline took control of the individual lead with a pair of under-par rounds and Central Oklahoma was tied atop the team standings after the first day of the season-opening Lincoln Invitational here Monday.

The first event of the season is one of four MIAA-sanctioned tournaments in 2014-15. The results from the event will be used to help determine the conference champion in April.

Kline shot a sizzling seven-under-par 68-67 at the par-71 Old Kinderhook Golf Club and the Bronchos had a four-under 564 total with rounds of 283-281 to share the lead with Central Missouri.  Northeastern State is third in the 11-team field at 576, followed by Lindenwood (599) and Washburn (608).

UCO also got rounds of 69-71 from Russ Purser, 70-72 from Logan Gray, 76-72 from Wesley Jackson and 78-71 ffrom Cody Troutman.  Purser is tied for fourth in the medalist standings with a two-under 140 total, while Gray is tied for sixth at even-par 142.

Kline had 25 pars, six birdies, three bogeys and two eagles on the day.  He played the par-5s in five-under and was minus-two on the par 4s in finishing with a 135 total that has him three shots ahead in the individual race.

Final-round play in the 54-hole tourney starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
