UCO, NSU compete in Nebraska

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team sits in sixth place after Monday’s first two rounds of the UNK Fall Invitational at the par-72, 7,001-yard Awarii Dunes GC.

 The RiverHawks fired a two-round total of 30-over-par 606 (307-299) and were the only team in the top 10 to improve their team total in the second round.

Host Nebraska-Kearney leads all teams at 5-over 581 (290-291), while Lindenwood sits in second at 9-over 585 (289-296). Fort Hays State (295-299=594), No. 12 Central Oklahoma (290-305=595) and No. 15 Central Missouri (292-304=596) round out the top five.

Freshman Tate Williamson leads team NSU after carding a 2-over 146. His rounds of 72 and 74 have him in a tie for eighth.

Sophomore Michael Varner is tied for 26th at 8-over 152 (76-76), while freshman Marc Johnson is one stroke behind and in a tie for 31st (76-77). Junior Josh Strimple (83-75) and sophomore Brent Williamson (84-74) both rebounded after lackluster opening rounds to sit in a tie for 48th at 158.

The teams will gather on the course for the final round Tuesday.
