ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 23) – Lindsey Bensch shot a final-round 75 to lead Central Oklahoma to a runner-up finish while Northeastern State placed third at the Missouri Western Invitational here Monday.
The Bronchos closed with a 311 to finish two trips around the par-72 St. Joseph County Club with a 620 total, coming in just one stroke behind Arkansas Tech. Northeastern State was next in the 15-team field at 636, followed by Lindenwood (648) and Concordia-St. Paul (656).
It’s the second time this year that UCO has been runner-up by one shot, with the Bronchos having also won six tournament titles. "We struggled some and came up a little short," head coach Michael Bond said. "We left a lot of shots out there, which is frustrating, but that’s part of the game."
Bensch’s 75 led the way, while Daniela Martinez and Mari Souvannasing both shot 78 and Katie Bensch and Bethany Darrough 80. Lindsey Bensch tied for third in the individual standings, with Souvannasing, Katie Bensch and Darrough all tying for seventh.
UCO returns to action April 6-7 at the First Federal Invitational in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Northeastern State had two golfers finish in the top-five for the second-straight tournament. The team posted a 30-over-par 318 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 60-over 636.
Sophomore Baylee Price finished in a tie for third and led the way for the RiverHawks. She shot a 10-over 154. Junior Charter Lawson finished just behind in a tie for fifth. She carded a 3-over on Tuesday’s final round to finish at 11-over 155.
Junior Kayla Schroeder finished in a tie for 16th after posting a 17-over-par 161. Freshman Alexis Armon shot 23-over 167 and finished in 31st, while senior Arizona Chin finished in T-48 after carding a 32-over 176.
Northeastern State will next compete in the NCAA Division II Central Region Spring Preview in Springfield, Missouri, at Rivercut Golf Club April 13-14.
