UCO second, NSU sixth early in Mid-America Championship

KANSAS CITY – Cody Troutman and Logan Gray both shot 74 to lead Central Oklahoma to a second-place showing after first-day play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men’s Golf Championships here Monday.
The Bronchos shot a 305 and are just three strokes behind Washburn after opening-round play at the 6,977-yard, par-72 Tiffany Greens Golf Club.  Lindenwood is third in the 11-team field at 306.
Tuesday’s second round tees off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the final round at Wednesday at 8:30.
Troutman and Gray are tied for third in the medalist standings after their two-over-par 74s.  UCO also got a 77 from Eli Armstrong, while Eric Kline shot 80 and Russ Purser 81. 

Northeastern State nestled into sixth place.  The RiverHawks shot 27-over-par 315 in Monday’s first round to sit six strokes back of a top-5 position.

True freshman Garrett McDaniel was NSU’s low golfer after the first round, and he is tied for ninth at 3-over 75. Junior Marc Johnson shot 6-over 78 and landed at T-21, while fellow junior Tate Williamson carded an 8-over 80 and is tied for 31st. Senior Brent Williamson shot 10-over 82 to land T-41, and true freshman Hunter Pennington shot 14-over 86 to tie for 46th.
