UCO women drop to fifth at halfway point of D-II Championship

CONOVER, N.C. (May 15) – Central Oklahoma dropped some shots down the stretch and fell one spot in the team standings on the second day of the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships here Thursday.

The Bronchos came in with a 307 and finished two trips around the par-71 Rock Barn Golf and Spa with a 608 total, good for fifth place in the 12-team field.

Top-ranked Lynn leads the tourney at 591, followed by Barry (594), Tarleton State (599), Rollins (603) and UCO.  The four-day, 72-hole event continues with Friday’s third round at 7:30 a.m.

"You can’t give away shots in the national tournament and we did that today," head coach Michael Bond said.  "We made some mistakes at the end that hurt us a little, but we still had a solid day and just need to keep plugging along."

Taylor Neidy led the Bronchos with her second straight 74, while June Tigert and Bethany Darrough both shot 77.  Katie Bensch added a 79 and Aly Seng an 85.

Neidy bogeyed the par-5 first hole, got back to even-par with a birdie on the par-3 sixth and bogeyed No. 7 en route to a one-over 36 on the front nine.

The senior standout birdied the par-5 10th hole to get back to even and then reeled off six straight pars before playing the last three holes three-over.  Neidy is tied for 10th in the individual standings at 148.

Darrough, who opened the tourney with a one-over 71 Wednesday, double bogeyed her first hole in shooting a front-nine 40 before making two birdies in a back-nine 37.  She’s tied for 15th at 149.

Tigert shot an opening-nine 37 despite a double bogey on the second half coming in with a 40 that included another double bogey.

Northeastern State freshman Baylee Price landed in a tie for 20th after Thursday’s second Price improved her second round results from day one by four strokes and currently sits tied for 20th after carding a 73.
