AUSTIN, Texas – Central Oklahoma settled for a sixth-place tie at the St. Edward’s Invitational in the first tournament of the spring season that ended here Tuesday.
The Bronchos had a final-round 308 at the par-70 Onion Creek Country Club to finish the two-day, 36-hole tournament with a 607 total. Indianapolis won the 15-team event at 586, followed by St. Mary’s (591), Tarleton State (592), West Texas A&M (601) and Arkansas Tech (603).
Marla Souvannasing had the low score for UCO in the final round with a four-over-par 74. Makena Mucciaccio shot 76, while Grace Shin and Sydney Roberts had 79s and Anna Pool an 83.
Souvannasing tied for 13th in the final individual standings with a 149 total, the 30th time in 31 career tournaments that the junior standout has finished in the top 20.
“Our ball-striking was good, but like any other event it comes down to the short game,” head coach Michael Bond said. “The greens were a little slower than what we’re used to and we didn’t adapt very well to that. We had a lot of good looks on our putts and just didn’t make many.
“We’ll learn from it, correct our mistakes and be ready for KickingBird in a couple of weeks.
The Bronchos don’t have to go far for their next tournament, with the Southern Nazarene Classic set for March 6-7 at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond.
