CONOVER, N.C. (May 14) – Bethany Darrough fired a one-over-par 72 and Taylor Neidy overcame a rough start for a 74 to lead Central Oklahoma to a fourth-place standing after the opening day of the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships here Wednesday.
The Bronchos came in with a 301 at the par-71 Rock Barn Golf and Spa to trail first-day leader Lynn by seven shots.  Rollins is second in the 12-team field at 297, followed by Tarleton State (300), UCO and Barry (305).
UCO begins second-round action in the four-day, 72-hole tourney at 7:30 a.m.
"It was a good start for us and I’m proud of how our girls fought today," head coach Michael Bond said.  "We had some bad holes, but everybody did a great job of staying focused and they didn’t get rattled.  We’re in a good position and just need to come back tomorrow ready to play."
Darrough’s 72 has her in a six-way tie for third in the individual standings, two shots behind leader California Baptist’s Tina Yang.  Neidy is tied for 16th, while the Bronchos also got a 77 from Aly Seng and 78s from June Tigert and Katie Bensch.
UCO’s players opened play on No. 10 and Darrough offset a bogey on the 11th hole with a birdie on the par-3 13th in making the turn at even-par 36.  She bogeyed three of the first five holes on the back nine before canning back-to-back birdie putts on Nos. 7 and 8 en route to a closing 36.
Neidy, coming off a runaway win in the Super Three Regional Tournament last week, started bogey-double bogey before rebounding to play even-par over the final 16 holes for her opening 74.
Seng had steady nines of 39-38, Tigert came in with 78 despite a back-nine quadruple bogey and Bensch opened with consecutive double bogeys before going just three-over on the last 16 holes.

Northeastern State freshman Baylee Price, playing as an individual, is tied for 29th after an opening round 77.
