Upton signs to play golf for Eagles

TISHOMINGO, Okla. (May 24, 2016) – Spencer Upton, a standout golfer at Tishomingo High School, has signed a letter of intent to play collegiately at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach David Lynn said Tuesday.

Upton posted top-10 finishes in the state tournament as a freshman (Class 3A), sophomore (2A) and junior (2A) before placing 12th in this year’s event. He is a four-time All-Lake Country Conference selection.

Also a basketball standout, Upton earned all-conference honors in 2015 and 2016.

"Spencer is a tremendous athlete who in college will focus on golf year-round for the first time," Lynn said. "He has all the tools to be an outstanding golfer at the college level. He has finished in the top 10 of the 3A state tournament and the 2A state tournament and had multiple tournament victories and rounds under par. Spencer is a great fit for our system at Oklahoma Christian."

Upton is the second player to sign with OC for the 2016-17 season, joining Michael Robinson of Sayre. They’ll join a team that qualified for the NCAA Division II tournament in its first season of eligibility to do so.
