Connor Syme of Scotland birdied the 18th hole to edge Oklahoma State golfer Kristoffer Ventura 1 up in the round of 16 in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Riviera Country Club Thursday.

Ventura was the last Cowboy standing after five made the match play field. He had earlier knocked off teammate Hayden Wood 3 and 2 in the round of 32. Zach Bauchou lost in that round to Chun An Yu of Chinese Taipei 4 and 3.
